Saying goodbye to the family home can be tough, what a wonderful idea it is to capture those memories with a Farewell Session.

Two retrospective blog posts in a week! The upside of extreme cold weather and that weird period between Christmas and New Year when nobody knows what day it is! Just as well as we have a few to get through, so looking to make the most of this quiet period.

This family shoot we did way back in July was gifted to our client by a close family friend (we’ll talk more about gift certificates!!), as a farewell to their family home. Can we just take a second because this is SUCH a good idea and is one of the most thoughtful and creative gift ideas I could think of! The family had lived in the house, which they had built, from when the kids were small. Since the kids had grown up and left the nest, they were downsizing from this beautiful property, and it was a real honour to capture this emotional time for them.

One thing I really love about photography is capturing that emotion and immortalizing a moment, it’s just so special when you think about it. This is a gift which will literally become part of their story and probably become more special as the years roll by. We would absolutely encourage our clients to think outside the box like this, and consider capturing those moments where life changes forever; they aren’t always traditional special occasions- they could be the passing of a pet, getting rid of your first truck (okay this is Alberta most people just leave them in the yard), changing jobs, or, leaving a beloved home.

Our gift cards are handmade (100% Pegs area of expertise) and really nicely presented- each is custom made for it’s recipient, so value is however much you like. We offer a whole host of delivery extras, such wooden USB keepsake boxes, wooden photo boxes and leather photo pouches, all of which can be bundled with a gift card. Our product can also be engraved (SUPER reasonable pricing) if you are looking to gift something extra special. If you’re interested in gifting a Peak & Prairie session, just contact us on Facebook or Instagram!
