A Rustic Camp Wedding at Pigeon Lake, AB
Camp Maskepetoon was the perfect backdrop for Stuart and Juliette’s wedding, where guests had come from near and far to be part of a day which was absolutely filled with love and laughter.
Phew! So after a crazy busy start to our wedding season, we’re finally getting a bit of a reprieve- so it’s officially editing and blogging season also. If you can cast your minds back to June, we were wondering if it was ever going to rain again here in central Alberta and wildfires were the headline news story. Luckily the weather broke a week or two before Juliette and Stuarts big day, and they were treated to a beautifully warm summers day, without the smoke that was sitting on the lake on our walkthrough and we were all getting so sick of!
While our couple (and many of their guests) had travelled down from the Northwest Territories for their wedding, we had still managed a good amount of pre-wedding communication facilitated by their excellent wedding planner Molly and her team (from Kristen Glass Events) and we even managed to get a little mini session together a few days prior to the wedding to meet J&S in person and get them more comfortable in front of the camera. Stuart had actually camped at his now wedding venue many times as a kid and it absolutely matched both of their adventurous-outdoorsy personalities to host their big day in a place like this with a close connection to nature. There’s room on-site for travel trailers to park and several basically equipped cabins for guests to rent, as well as airbnb’s galore in the surrounding areas along Pigeon Lake.
Once everyone was dressed and ready, we kicked-off the day with an emotional first-look with Dad- this has definitely turned into one of our absolute fave parts of the day over the last few years, and this was no exception. It was a special moment to catch Dad’s reaction as he saw his girl in her wedding dress for the first time and we hope the pictures speak for themselves. J&S opted for a first touch instead of a first look as they didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony but still wanted to share an intimate moment.
The ceremony area at Camp Maskepetoon was looking stunning as Juliette & Stuart exchanged rings and vows in front of packed rows of family and friends in a really sweet (and really hot) ceremony. This is definitely one of the longer processionals we’ve documented distance-wise!! It was quite a trek to get to the alter- fantastic for us, as lot’s of opportunities to capture little moments along the way. The rest of the afternoon was spent popping champagne and hanging out with friends and family, before a lively reception with some hilarious and heart warming speeches.
It was a privilege to document Juliette and Stuarts big day and what an amazing support network of family and friends they have. We loved hearing stories about life in the Territories, that road trip in high up on our list!
